The Coaches Studio
Transforming the Coaches Behind the Coaching
Deepen your presence, refine your craft, and build a practice with a purpose.
No one tells you what comes after coach training.
Coach training teaches you how to coach.
But it doesn’t always prepare you for everything that comes next—
discovering who you are as a coach,
building coaching hours,
preparing for your next credential,
creating a practice that pays the bills,
and making marketing decisions that align with your values.
There thing is, there is no single blueprint for becoming a great coach.
Every coach’s journey is different, but it helps to learn alongside someone who has navigated those transitions before you and can offer both support and honest reflection along the way.
That’s why I created The Coaches Studio.
I’m an executive coach, mentor coach, and lifelong student of coaching. Over the past several years, I’ve coached thousands of individuals while building a coaching practice across countries, cultures, and communities—from the Philippines to California and now Chicago—both virtually and in person. Along the way, I had the privilege of earning the ICF Master Certified Coach Credential (MCC).
When I received my MCC, I expected to feel as though I had finally arrived.
Instead, I found myself reflecting on everything it had taken to get there.
The credential was an important milestone, but it wasn’t what defined my journey. Looking back, I realized that becoming an MCC was never just about coaching competencies. It was about personal transformation, refining my craft, building a coaching practice with purpose, and learning from mentors, supervisors, peers, clients, friends, families, and even previously strangers who generously walked alongside me.
I created The Coaches Studio to be the kind of place I wish every coach had after completing their training—a place for thoughtful guidance, honest reflection, and a community committed to coaching excellence.
Hi, I’m Joyce Talag.
“You cannot take your clients where you are not willing to go yourself.”
One of my coaching mentors shared these words with me early in my coaching journey. They’ve kept me in check ever since.
Whenever I find myself feeling stuck, uncomfortable, or uncertain in a coaching conversation, they remind me to pause and ask a different question—not only about what’s happening for my client, but what might this moment be inviting me to notice about myself.
Personally, I’ve come to believe that coaching is a two-way journey. While my clients may leave a session with new insights, I often leave having learned something about myself as well.
Every time I choose to show up with humility and curiosity, I let go of a little more of my ego. And every time I let go of my ego, another layer is peeled back.
That’s why I believe the coach behind the coaching is never finished becoming.
The Three Dimensions of Coach Development
Coach development goes beyond competencies. It is the lifelong work of becoming—deepening who we are, refining how we coach, and building a practice rooted in purpose and aligned with our values.
At The Coaches Studio, this journey unfolds through three interconnected dimensions: Presence, Craft, and Practice.
Who are you becoming?
The quality of your coaching begins long before you ask the first question. It begins with the person you bring into the room.
Presence is the ongoing work of cultivating self-awareness, humility, curiosity, and the capacity to be fully with another person. It invites us to notice our assumptions, examine our patterns, and continue growing alongside our clients.
Presence
How are you growing as a coach?
Coaching excellence is developed over time through deliberate practice, thoughtful feedback, and a commitment to continual learning.
Whether you’re preparing for your next credential or refining your coaching style, mentor coaching offers a space to strengthen competencies while discovering an approach that feels genuinely yours.
Craft
Why do you coach?
Building a coaching practice is more than just about finding a niche or creating a marketing strategy. It’s about creating work that reflects your values, serves the people you’re called to support, and generates the sustainability to keep doing that work well.
Together, we’ll explore your purpose, clarify your positioning, and build a practice where purpose and profit can coexist.

Frequently Asked Questions
About The Coaches Studio
-
The Coaches Studio is for coaches who want to continue growing beyond their initial coach training. You may be working toward your ACC, PCC, or MCC credential, developing your coaching style, exploring supervision, or building a practice of your own.
-
The Coaches Studio offers coach development across three interconnected areas: Presence, Craft, and Practice. Services include coaching supervision as a reflective practice to deepen your presence; mentor coaching with developmental feedback to refine your craft towards your next credential; and brand and business development to help you build a purposeful and sustainable coaching practice. Support may be offered through individual sessions, packages, and selected group experiences.
-
No. Credentialing may be part of your journey, but it doesn’t have to be the reason we work together. The Coaches Studio supports the broader development of the coach behind the coaching—from presence and craft to building a sustainable practice.
-
Start with a conversation. You don’t need to decide whether you need mentor coaching, supervision, or practice development before we meet. We can explore where you are in your coaching journey, what you’re working toward, and what kind of support would be most useful now.
-
Yes. Our Practice work explores both the why and the practical realities of building a coaching business: purpose, positioning, niche, brand, offers, pricing, and sustainability. There is no single blueprint. The goal is to help you build a practice that works commercially without losing sight of why you became a coach in the first place.
Mentor Coaching and Supervision
-
Mentor coaching focuses on developing how you coach. It gives you an opportunity to reflect on your coaching, receive feedback, deepen your understanding of coaching competencies, and strengthen your practice. It can also support coaches working toward or renewing an ICF credential.
-
Coaching supervision creates space to reflect on who you are in the work—not only what you do. Together, we can explore what is happening in your coaching relationships, the patterns or assumptions you may be bringing into the room, ethical questions, challenging client situations, and what your work may be inviting to notice about yourself.
-
Mentor coaching primarily develops your craft—how you coach and demonstrate coaching competencies. Coaching supervision focuses more deeply on your presence—how you experience and make sense of your work, your relationships with clients, and yourself as a practitioner. Both can play an important role in your ongoing development
-
Yes. The Coaches Studio works with coaches virtually, allowing us to support coaches beyond Chicago. Opportunities for in-person work, workshops, and gatherings may also be offered in Chicago.
ICF Credentialing
-
Yes. Under current ICF renewal requirements, up to 10 hours of coaching supervision—whether received or provided—may count toward your required Core Competency CCE hours.

-
Yes. ICF currently allows up to 10 hours of eligible mentor coaching toward the CCE requirements for credential renewal, counted as Core Competency activity. For ACC renewal, however, remember that the 10 hours of mentor coaching are also a specific renewal requirement.
-
It depends on how your previous mentor coaching was completed and the credentialing pathway you’re using. For example, ICF states that 10 hours completed within an ACC mentor would need to be retaken with a PCC or MCC for that progression. Because credentialing pathways differ, it is worth reviewing your individual training history before deciding what additional mentor coaching you need.
-
Yes. If you’re unsure how your coach training, mentor coaching, coaching hours, or previous credentials fit together, we can review where you are and help you understand the next steps in your development. Final eligibility and credentialing decisions are made by ICF, so we’ll always refer to current ICF requirements when planning your path.
